Next Chapter Prep @nextchapterprep.ca

Helping your child get ready for their next chapter.

Strong reading, writing and math skills, confident learning habits, and clear guidance when it's time to choose a school. For GTHA families with children in Kindergarten to Grade 6.

How we help

Good preparation starts long before any application. We help children build the skills and habits that make every new grade easier, and we guide families through school choices when the time comes.

Core skills

Reading, writing and math practice matched to the Ontario curriculum, at your child's level, from first sounds and numbers to Grade 6 problem solving.

Learning habits and confidence

Talking about ideas, staying organized and keeping calm on tests: the habits that help children enjoy learning and show what they know.

Choosing and applying to schools

If your family is considering independent school, we explain each step in plain language: open houses, deadlines, tests, interviews and financial aid.

Workbooks for home

Practice books families can use at the kitchen table, starting with Grade 5 and Grade 6. More grades and one-on-one support will follow.

Learning at every stage

What children need changes as they grow. Here's where we focus at each stage.

Kindergarten to Grade 2

Strong foundations

Early reading and writing, number sense, and the curiosity and listening skills that make school feel good from the start.

Grades 3 and 4

Building fluency

Reading to learn, writing clear paragraphs, and confident work with multiplication, fractions and word problems.

Grades 5 and 6

Ready for what's next

Longer writing, multi-step problem solving and good study habits, plus guidance for families applying to independent schools.

If you're applying to independent schools

Grade 7 is a common entry year, so many families apply while their child is in Grade 6. For children starting Grade 7 in fall 2027, the application year usually looks like this.

  1. September to November

    Visit and shortlist

Go to open houses with your child, take notes, and narrow your list to the schools that suit them.

  2. Late November to January

    Apply

Many day schools share a December 1 deadline; others fall between late November and January. Ask teachers for references early, and start the financial aid application at the same time.

  3. Fall to winter

    Tests and interviews

Many schools use the SSAT, with sittings through the fall and winter, and some run their own assessments. Interviews and visit days often begin in the fall.

  4. Late February

    Offers

Many schools release decisions on a shared offer date in late February. Then comes the choice your family makes together.

As of fall 2026. Dates, tests and requirements vary from school to school, so check each school's admissions page for its own.

Workbooks on the way

We're writing workbooks families can use at home, starting with the two years before Grade 7.
